Investing in the spiritual health of the team who serves families across Nicaragua.
This year, SuNica’s water team stepped away from their daily responsibilities for their annual retreat at the Sacred Forest, a beautiful place that God has provided us to experience spiritual retreats. What may look like a simple retreat is actually a strategic investment in the health of the team that keeps clean water flowing to hundreds of families.
Throughout the year, our water team carries significant responsibility. They design and build complex water systems and serve communities in challenging conditions. Their work is technical, but it is also relational and spiritual. Caring for their spiritual and emotional health is not a luxury; it is essential to sustaining the ministry long-term.
This retreat created space to pause, reflect, and be renewed.
Serving Beyond the Job Description
During their time at the Sacred Forest, the team also completed electrical improvements in the home of Vladimir, the property’s security guard, where he lives with his family. Though slightly outside their normal scope of work, the project significantly improved the family’s living conditions and became a meaningful expression of care.
When Vladimir’s wife saw the finished work, her gratitude overflowed.
Moments like this remind us that our team does more than maintain infrastructure, they serve people. And sometimes serving well means stepping beyond the technical task to strengthen relationships and reflect Christ’s love in practical ways.
Rest, Reflection, and Renewal
The retreat included shared meals, walks through the forest, and intentional time in prayer. Tension was released. Unity deepened. Each team member had space to thank God for the past year and renew their calling for the year ahead.
When the people who maintain the systems are spiritually grounded and emotionally healthy, the systems themselves are stronger. And the communities they serve are stronger too.
The team returned not just rested, but refocused and ready to serve with excellence, resilience, humility, and compassion. Your generosity strengthens not only clean water projects, but the people behind them.
And when you invest in the spiritual and emotional health of our team, that investment multiplies across every community we serve.
