July was a difficult month for the community of San Carlos. The beloved Doña Cándida Núñez—an active member of the CAPS committee—passed away, and her absence is deeply felt by her team, her neighbors, and all of us at SuNica.

Doña Cándida was more than a committee member—she was a woman of joy, strength, and unwavering commitment to serving her community and family. Her willingness to help others, her ability to rejoice in both plenty and little, and her ever-present smile left a legacy of love and selflessness. Even on the hardest days, she showed up ready to work alongside her team with the joy that defined her.

Until her final day, she remained faithful in her leadership, and she walked closely with her family through their own pain. As our social coordinator Gladys Linarte shared:

“I’m amazed at how much the committee has grown to feel and function like a family. Seeing them united and supporting one another fills my heart with how God reveals Himself—even in the days when we might not see His hand.”

Doña Cándida had planned to continue serving in the upcoming CAPS committee restructuring. Though she is no longer with us, the team is moving forward in faith—searching for someone to carry on her role. Her passing is a reminder of the courage and commitment of those who remain. As they face this change, we hold fast to the truth that it is God who sustains, lifts, and strengthens us through every season.

We are grateful for the lives God places in these communities—people like Doña Cándida—who care deeply about true and lasting change. And we remain hopeful for what’s ahead.
