As a new year begins in Nicaragua, a new school year begins as well. For families in the communities we serve, this season brings both excitement and challenge. The opportunity to learn is a gift, but for many the cost of school supplies and uniforms can feel overwhelming.
At SuNica, preparation begins months in advance. Since December, our coordinators have prayerfully planned, budgeted, and carefully selected high-quality backpacks, uniforms, and school supplies. Every notebook, pencil, and backpack is chosen with one goal in mind: that each student would begin the school year with dignity, confidence, and joy.
Because of God’s faithful provision, and the generosity of friends like you, 165 students received fully equipped backpacks this year, along with complete school uniforms. These students live in Salinas Grande, San Carlos, La Leona, El Porvenir, and El Limonal.
This year also included something especially meaningful.
Last year, one of our staff members humbly asked whether it might be possible to include the children of our SuNica team in the backpack distribution. Our staff serve faithfully every day mentoring students, organizing programs, building relationships, and caring deeply for families in their communities. Yet like many families in Nicaragua, they face the same financial pressures when the school year begins.
We were grateful to say yes.
This year, 13 children of our staff members received backpacks and uniforms as well. It was a joy to bless the very families who give so much to serve others. Supporting them is one small way we honor their commitment and remind them that they, too, are seen, valued, and cared for.
For every child who receives a backpack, the gift represents far more than school supplies.
